2020 Holiday Promotions and Campaigns

Many of our sales teams around the country are gearing up for the upcoming holiday season with holiday promotions tied to Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas. These promotions will help our teams generate extra revenue and donations despite the current financial climate within collegiate sports. Below are several examples of creative ideas and promotions that our sales teams are currently engaged in.

This holiday season, the Sooners are offering fans an array of Black Friday Ticket packages. Five ticket packages that range from $80 to $500 are bundled with a Sooner Gift Pack that includes exclusive OU Athletics items such as a Bob Stoops Bobblehead and a Lincoln Riley imprinted Autographed Football. All packages offer tickets at a price discounted from single-game tickets.

Our partners and sales team at South Carolina got creative this holiday season with their “Naughty Not Nice – Lump of Coal” promotion. The offer, run through FEVO, includes a holiday “gift” set ideal for rival fans. The “Naughty Not Nice” set includes holiday packaging, a personalized to and from card with a holiday poem, and a garnet velvet sack of coal. The gift is perfect holiday fun for any South Carolina fan to send to an opposing fan. The gift packages are priced at $15 each and all proceeds benefit the Athletics COVID-19 Resilience Fund.

Our sales team at Indy Eleven worked with their merchandise team to create three “Holiday Packs” options for their fans this upcoming holiday season. The “Fan Bundle” includes (4) undated 2021 ticket vouchers and Indy Eleven branded scarf, gloves and a car magnet. The “Cup of Cheer” pack includes (2) undated 2021 ticket vouchers and an Indy Eleven branded coffee mug and coffee. The last special allows fans to purchase “gift tickets” in which they can choose any number of undated 2021 ticket vouchers in various locations. The Indy Eleven team plans to create a webpage dedicated to the holiday specials, to send email blasts to their database and to advertise the “Holiday Packs” on all social media platforms.

Our team at West Virginia is following the lead of our partners at South Carolina. Although the team has yet to announce their special, the Mountaineers are looking to create a similar holiday promotion that includes sending a “lump of coal” to their rival team’s fan base. The team at WVU is working with marketing to set pricing and determine how they will advertise this promotion to their fan base. They are planning on having the coal gift set feature WVU branding and hope to have this announced by mid-November.

Many of our partner schools are still in the process of creating their holiday specials and promotions and have yet to formally announce their ideas. Please stay in touch with the General Manager at your school to stay informed on these initiatives. In our next issue of Ticket Talk, we plan to highlight the successes our teams have achieved through these promotions and to include additional holiday specials. Stay tuned for our December issue!

The Tar Heels are working on a Holiday Gift Card concept with administration in which fans can gift friends, family or themselves ticket credit. They plan to have more details soon.

Our team at SMU is in the process of launching their “Deck the Halls with Season Tickets” initiative. They hope to announce this during the week of Thanksgiving.

The team at Penn State is in the early stages of creating mystery fan packs tied to Black Friday. These Black Friday fan packs will include apparel, old equipment and Penn State branded trinkets. More to come!
